In short
- Decide first whether this is a home, community or corporate open house, because the plan differs.
- Put hospitality first: the crew follows your guests, not the other way round.
- Name the few moments that matter, such as the host's welcome, doa and family greetings.
- Agree how guests are told about filming and who may not appear.
Put hospitality first, and plan the video around it. A Hari Raya open house has no single start time, so we plan a few windows of coverage around the moments you care about and keep the rest light and unobtrusive.
What kind of open house is it?
The answer changes the plan, so decide this first.
| Type | What usually matters | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Home open house | Family greetings, food, relatives who visit once a year | Small crew, no extra lights, ask which rooms are private |
| Community open house | Welcome speech, guests from many households, performances | Name a committee contact and plan sound for any speeches |
| Corporate open house | Hosts and VIPs, staff and guests, brand use | Agree approvals and who the video is for before the day |
Your own event may mix these. Tell us which description is closest, and what makes your open house different.
Which moments matter most?
Choose a few, and say who is involved. Common choices are the welcome, a short speech, the doa, family greetings and the food table, but yours may differ. The must-capture moments checklist helps you decide with your family or committee.
Guests drifting in and out means the best moments are often unplanned: a child greeting an elder, relatives meeting after a year. Tell us if you would like the crew to watch for these. If you prefer only the planned moments, say so.
How do we keep guests comfortable?
- Tell guests. A short word from the host, or a small sign at the door, is enough.
- Agree who prefers not to appear. Give the crew a short list, and a contact person on the day.
- Leave private areas alone. Prayer spaces, bedrooms and family rooms stay unfilmed unless the host says otherwise.
- Ask before close-ups. Guests who are eating or talking privately should not be filmed up close unless they agree.
Our guide to permissions and responsible publication explains how to think about guest consent and sharing. If you plan to post online, the private and public video version planner helps you set one version for family and another for public sharing.
How do we record speeches and doa?
Speeches are the easiest parts to plan and the hardest to repeat. Tell us who speaks, in which language and when.
A microphone and clean sound matter more than extra cameras. If a doa is to be recorded in full, tell us the lead person and where they will stand. For sound, see the event audio brief builder.
If you want speeches kept complete, ask for full ceremony and speech recording alongside a short highlight film.
What if guests are many and the day is long?
Filming all day is rarely needed. Instead, plan windows of coverage, for example around the welcome and the busiest hours. This is an illustration, not a fixed pattern: we agree the windows with you. If the open house runs across more than one day, see multi-day event video coverage.
What to put in your brief
One page is enough. For example: date and venue, the type of open house, three moments that matter, who prefers not to appear, who speaks, and one person who speaks to the crew.
If the open house is at a home, tell us about parking and which entrance the crew should use. Small details like these make the day easier for everyone.
What we confirm for your open house
- How the crew stays out of the way while guests eat.
- How speeches are recorded if the house or hall is noisy.
- Working without extra lights, if you prefer.
- Who approves the video before it is shared.
For more on how we work with hosts and groups, see community event videography.
If you can tell us who is hosting, roughly when guests arrive and which moments matter, we can suggest a small, quiet coverage plan. Send us the date, venue and a short description of the day and we will confirm what is possible.
