Filming a baby's full-moon or hundred-day celebration

You want to keep your baby's first big gathering without disturbing a tired newborn.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • Let the family pick four or five moments that matter most, and plan the rest around them.
  • Fit filming around the baby's feeding and sleep, not the other way round.
  • Ask grandparents and guests before close-ups, and decide with the parents what is shared online.
  • Keep one short film for sharing and one private version for the family.

Start with what the family wants to keep, then fit the camera around the baby. A good film of a full-moon or hundred-day gathering holds a handful of moments, not every minute.

Which moments are worth filming?

Families celebrate these milestones in different ways. Some hold a lunch at home, some book a restaurant, and some add prayers or a blessing from the elders. Ask the parents and grandparents what they would miss most if it were not recorded.

Moment Why families keep it How we handle it
Baby’s arrival or first appearance The first time many relatives see the baby Filmed from a distance while the family holds the baby as usual
Blessings and words from grandparents Voices that are hard to replace Clear sound, kept complete if you ask for a full recording
Gifts, food and family traditions The details that make this family’s day Filmed as they happen, in the order your family does them
Group photos and greetings Everyone together in one place A short pause is agreed with the photographer, if there is one
Parents with the baby Parents are often missing from their own photos Filmed quietly as it happens

Write your list in the must-capture moments checklist and share it with the crew. Four or five items is a good start.

How do we keep the baby comfortable?

The baby sets the pace. Tell us the usual feeding and nap times, and we plan the key moments around them.

  • We work with the light in the room, without flash or bright video lights.
  • The baby stays with the family. If the baby sleeps, we film the family around the baby.
  • We keep our distance and stay low when relatives hold the baby.
  • A quiet corner is kept free for feeding and changing, away from the camera.

Newborns tire quickly. A shorter coverage window with a clear list usually works better than a long one with nothing planned.

What about elders and guests?

Grandparents and older relatives may be shy or unwell on the day. Ask them before the day if they are comfortable being filmed up close, and tell us who they are by role, for example “the baby’s paternal grandmother”. We film moments as they happen.

For mixed ages in one room, our guide on filming around children and older relatives covers the timing in more detail.

Who decides what is shared online?

The parents decide. A baby’s face and name can reach many people once posted, and later the child cannot choose. Agree early:

  1. Who receives the full recording (for example, both sets of grandparents).
  2. Whether a shorter film is shared with friends or kept within the family.
  3. Whether anything is posted publicly, and with which names or captions.

The private and public version planner helps you write this down. Our guide to permissions and responsible publication explains the wider picture.

An example of a simple plan

For example, a family holds a lunch with about forty relatives at a restaurant. The parents choose five moments: the baby’s arrival, the grandparents’ blessing, the family meal, the group greeting and a quiet moment with the parents. They ask for one short film for relatives overseas and a complete recording of the blessing for the family. This is an illustration only.

What we confirm for your event

  • If the baby is asleep or unsettled at the planned time: we wait or film other moments first.
  • Sound in a noisy restaurant: tell us the venue and we plan how to record the grandparents’ words clearly.
  • Versions: a private version for the family and a shorter one for sharing can be agreed in your quote.
  • What we need from you: the date, the place, roughly who is coming, the baby’s feeding and nap times, and your list of moments.

Our birthday and milestone celebration videography page explains how coverage and films are agreed for family events like this.

If you know the date, the place and roughly who is coming, that is enough for us to talk through the moments and the baby's schedule. Send those details and we will check whether we can film for your family.

Questions people ask

Do we need a videographer for a small family gathering?
Not always. A phone recording by a relative may be enough for a small lunch at home. A videographer helps when many relatives attend, when the parents want to be in the pictures, or when you want clear sound of blessings and speeches kept for years.
Will the camera disturb the baby?
We work quietly, keep our distance and avoid flash and bright lights. If the baby is sleeping or fussy, we wait or film other moments first. The parents decide when the baby is ready.
Can the video be shared with relatives overseas?
Yes, if the parents agree. Many families send a short film to relatives who could not attend. Decide before the day who may receive the full recording and whether any version is posted publicly.
What if some guests do not want to be filmed?
Tell us before the day. We can seat or frame guests so they stay out of shot, and we avoid close-ups of anyone who prefers not to appear. Please let guests know that filming will happen.
