Using video after the event

Making event videos useful after the day

The event is over and you want the footage to do more than sit in a folder.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • Decide who the video is for and where it will be seen before the edit starts.
  • Each use needs its own version: an internal recap, a social clip and a sponsor report are different films.
  • Check permissions for the people on screen and for music before anything is published.
  • Pick a measure that matches the purpose; one number rarely tells the whole story.

A film made for guests on the night is only one use of event footage. Staff, sponsors, news contacts, new customers and next year’s attendees may each need something different, and the plan is easier to make before the editing starts.

Which decision are you facing?

You want to… Start with
Plan who sees which video, and when Planning a post-event video distribution schedule
Share the day with colleagues Creating an internal event recap
Show sponsors what they received Planning sponsor evidence and reporting clips
Cut short clips from speakers and guests Repurposing event interviews into social clips
Keep talks for people who missed them Turning conference recordings into learning resources
Check whether the video did its job Measuring whether an event video achieved its purpose

More guides cover sales follow-up, recruitment, footage for news or partner organisations, embargoed announcements and the value of several outputs.

What to settle before reusing footage

Four questions come up every time:

  1. Audience. Who will watch, and what do they already know?
  2. Permission. Did the people on screen agree to this use? Is the music cleared for it?
  3. Version. Does this use need a new edit, a new format or just a cutdown?
  4. Owner and date. Who publishes it, and when does it still matter?

Most disappointment with event video comes from skipping the first question. A two-minute film that suits guests may be too long for social media and too light for a sponsor report.

Planning for reuse from the start

Reuse is easiest when it is planned before filming. If you know you will need a staff recap and four social clips, we can plan clean speaker audio and interview moments for them. The post-event asset planner helps you list every version and its purpose.

If the event has already happened, we can look at what you have. Our service for editing existing event footage starts by checking the material and agreeing an edit that is achievable.

If you already have footage and want it cut for a new purpose, send us a short note about the audience and where the video will be shown. We will tell you what can be edited and what is missing.

Editing your existing event footage

Already filmed your event? We edit supplied footage into a highlight film, speech cut or social clips. What we check first, what to send, and how review and delivery work.

Questions people ask

Can one highlight film serve every purpose?
Rarely. A highlight made for guests is not the same as a recap for staff or a clip for a sponsor report. Decide the audiences first, then list the versions you need. The distribution guide shows how to match each output to an owner and a date.
Can you edit footage we already have?
Yes, we offer editing of existing footage. Send a sample and tell us the purpose. We check the picture and sound quality first and tell you what an edit can achieve.
Do we need permission to reuse interviews or event footage?
Often yes, when people are identifiable or the video leaves its original audience. Agree the permitted uses at the time of filming, and ask again for new uses such as advertising. The permissions guides explain the questions to settle.
How do we know if the video worked?
Start from the purpose, using the measuring guide. A recruitment video may be judged by applications, a learning video by completion. Choose measures you can actually collect, and report what they show.
