In short
- Drone filming in Sarawak needs additional authorisation on top of the standard process.
- Check venue rules and the exact site before aerial shots are planned.
- Long distances and river or coastal sites need extra planning time.
- We plan ground coverage for the same shots as a backup.
If your event is in Sarawak, drone filming needs one more layer of approval than the standard process. Ask about the venue’s rules early, give us the exact site, and plan ground coverage for the same shots.
What is different in Sarawak
CAAM’s public drone guidance says standard applications should be made at least 14 working days before the activity. It also says additional authorisation applies in Sabah and Sarawak.
Requirements can change, so we check the current position for your date and place before we quote. Our drone footage service covers this check for each event.
Questions to settle first
- Where exactly is the event? A convention venue in Kuching such as BCCK, a riverside site or an outdoor field each have different conditions. Give us an address or a pin.
- What does the venue or site owner allow? Ask who controls the grounds, and whether they must be told or must agree.
- Which shots do you want? A short, specific list is easier to plan.
- Who applies? Agree in the quote who files the application and who is responsible for it.
- By when do you need to know? Ask for a date by which approval is confirmed.
Think about more than one site
Sarawak events can involve several places, for example a town venue and a trip out to a community site. Approval is tied to the place and the plan, so each site is checked on its own. List every location in your enquiry, even the short stops. Where two sites are far apart, we plan each flight, and its ground backup, separately.
Travel between sites takes time. A tight schedule leaves less room for a flight to wait for good light or clear weather. Our run-sheet filming planner helps you see where the day is tight. Tell us the venues and dates, and we confirm the crew and travel.
Plan the ground backup
| Aerial shot | Ground backup |
|---|---|
| Wide view of the venue on arrival | Raised camera or wide lens at the entrance |
| Site seen from far away | Long lens from a safe high point |
| Crowd from above | High position at the back of the hall or field |
With a backup, the film does not rely on one flight. If the drone flies, you gain a shot. If it does not, nothing is missing.
Share the plan of the day
The more we know about the day, the better we can fit a flight into it. Send the run sheet, or even a rough list of times and places. We look for a quiet moment, away from the busiest part of the programme, when an aerial shot is most useful and least in the way.
If the programme is not fixed yet, say so. We can plan around a window and adjust once the times are settled. Our guide to booking changes explains how to handle a plan that moves.
What we confirm for your event
We tell you when the approval result is known, and if anything changes before the day.
- The current Sarawak requirements for your date.
- What happens to the quote if approval is refused.
- What the ground backup covers.
Start with the overview of what to confirm for drone footage, or use the drone coverage planning checklist. For an event in Sabah, read the Sabah guide.
If your event is in Sarawak and you want aerial shots, send us the place, the date and the shot you have in mind. We will check what is possible for your date and plan ground coverage as well.
