Civil registration videography

Civil registration wedding videography

Your registration may be short and in a small room, yet you want the vows and witnesses kept.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • A registration is often short and held in a small room, so we plan for few people and little space.
  • The venue decides whether and where filming is allowed. We plan around its instructions.
  • Keep the vows, the exchange and the signing as one complete clip, then add the family moments around it.
  • Many couples also want the lunch, photographs or reception filmed. We plan each part separately.

A civil registration is often the shortest part of a wedding day, yet the part you most want to keep. We help you work out what can be filmed within your venue’s rules, then record the vows, the signing and the people around you clearly and quietly.

Start with the venue, not the camera

Registration venues and officers have their own arrangements. Some allow filming at set moments, some limit where a camera can stand, and some need permission beforehand.

Please ask the venue what applies to your registration and send us their answer.

Questions to ask the venue

  • Is a videographer allowed in the room, and is permission needed in advance?
  • How many people can be in the room, including the crew?
  • Where can the camera stand, and can it move during the registration?
  • Are lights, tripods or microphones allowed?
  • Is there a time limit for the registration or for photographs in the room?
  • Can we film the arrival, the corridor and the area outside?
  • Who should we contact on the day?

What a civil registration record can hold

Moment What we record Planning note
Arrival and waiting Family and friends gathering, the couple arriving Often the most relaxed footage; can be filmed outside
The vows and exchange Kept complete in one clip Sound near the couple matters most
Signing and witnesses The signing and the people beside the couple Space around the table may be tight
Photographs and greetings Group photographs and family hugs Check if the room allows them or if they move outside
Words from the couple A short statement to family, recorded outside the room Useful if filming inside is limited

For a short event, we suggest keeping the main moment as one complete recording of the ceremony and adding a short film around it. The guide on choosing finished videos explains how.

Sound in a small room

Small rooms are quiet, which helps the vows, but echo and air conditioning can make speech harder to hear. We ask whether there is a microphone for the officer, and we place a small recorder near the couple with the venue’s agreement. If possible, send us a photo of the room beforehand.

How we work on registration day

We aim to arrive early and introduce ourselves to the officer or the venue contact before the registration starts. The crew stays as small as possible, dressed neatly, and stands where agreed so the couple, witnesses and officer are never blocked.

After the vows and signing, we record the congratulations and photographs inside or outside the room, whichever the venue allows.

Registration and the celebration afterwards

Many couples hold lunch, a dinner or a reception after registration, sometimes on another day. We plan the registration and the celebration as separate coverage blocks and allow time for travel between them. If the registration is one of several events, our guide on wedding video across multiple dates and receptions helps you decide where to spend coverage.

What we agree with you before the day

  1. The venue’s rules: what the venue allows, in writing if possible.
  2. The people: the couple, parents, witnesses and anyone who must be in the clip, by role.
  3. The must-have moments: and anything that should stay private. The must-capture moments checklist helps.
  4. The films: which films you receive and how you review them.

What moves the quote

A short registration needs fewer filming hours than a full wedding day, but planning and editing still count; see how pricing works. For the whole wedding, see our wedding videography page. For a legal question about your registration, ask the registering authority or a qualified adviser.

If you know the registration venue and date, send them to us, along with any instructions the venue gave you. We will check what is practical and whether we can be there.

Questions people ask

Can we film inside the registration room?
That depends on the venue and the officer in charge. Some places limit filming to certain moments or positions, or ask for permission in advance. Please ask the venue what they allow and send us their answer, and we will plan around it.
How many people can come with the crew?
Registration rooms are often small, and the number of guests may be limited by the venue. Tell us how many people will be in the room, and we will plan the smallest crew that can record clearly. The venue has the final say.
Can you film outside the registration office instead?
Yes. If filming inside is limited, we can record the arrival, family greetings, photographs and a short statement from the couple outside, and agree this with the venue first.
Do you record the witnesses?
Yes, if the venue allows and they agree. Tell us who the witnesses are by role, such as a sibling or a close friend, so we can place the camera and brief them.
Can you film the lunch or reception after registration?
Yes. The registration and the meal afterwards are separate coverage blocks, often at different places. We plan travel between them, and our wedding reception page covers the meal in more detail.
Can we get a full recording of the registration?
If filming is allowed, yes. A short event can be kept complete, and many couples keep it as a separate clip from the highlight film. Whether it can be filmed from start to finish is for the venue to decide.
