Reception videography

Wedding reception videography beyond the highlights

A reception holds speeches, family and a whole evening that a few highlight minutes cannot carry.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • A reception record can hold the entrance, speeches, toasts, performances and the people at each table.
  • A highlight film shows the mood. Speeches and key moments are kept complete if you ask for them.
  • Sound at the head table and stage is planned with the venue before the day.
  • Your quote lists hours, crew and films, so you can compare it with others.

A reception record should hold more than the dance floor and the cake. We film the entrance, the speeches, the toasts and the performances, then deliver the films you choose: a highlight for sharing, complete recordings of the moments you want to keep, or both.

What a reception can include

Receptions in Malaysia differ a lot. A hotel ballroom dinner, a dewan buffet, a home gathering and a restaurant banquet all run in different ways. Typical moments we plan around:

  • Arrival and entrance: the couple, their parents and the bridal party coming in.
  • Bersanding or the main table moment: where the couple is seated and greeted. If the solemnisation is also part of your day, see nikah ceremony videography.
  • Speeches and toasts: parents, family, friends and the emcee.
  • Performances: singers, bands, dance items and surprise acts. Surprise items need a quiet word with us first, and our guide on covering surprise wedding performances explains how.
  • Cake cutting and table greetings: the small moments family remember.
  • Photo slideshows and video tributes: filmed from the screen only if you want them in the record.

Not every wedding has all of these. We ask what your evening actually contains.

The reception films you can choose

Output What it is Best for
Highlight film An edited story of the evening with music Sharing with friends and remembering the mood
Full speeches and toasts Each speech kept from start to finish Parents and grandparents whose words you want to keep
Entrance and key moments Selected scenes kept longer and complete Entrances, cake cutting, special dances
Performance clips One or more performances kept as a separate clip Singers, bands or family items
Short social clips Vertical or square cuts Posting soon after the day

A highlight film is a few minutes long, so it can only carry short excerpts of each moment. If you want the words of a speech or the whole performance, ask for a full ceremony and speech recording. Our guide to choosing finished videos explains the trade-offs.

What we agree before the evening

  1. The programme: the order of items, the emcee’s plan and any items that can run late.
  2. The key people: who gives speeches and who must appear, described by role.
  3. Sound: how speeches and performances reach the recording. We ask the venue about the microphones, mixer and music volume, and whether we can take a feed from the sound desk.
  4. Light and space: the room lighting during dinner, stage lights and where we can stand without blocking guests.
  5. Privacy: guests, children or moments that should not be filmed or shared.
  6. Films and timing: which films you receive and how you review them.

The must-capture moments checklist helps you and your family write this down. It is optional.

How we work during the reception

Receptions often have several things happening at once: a performance on stage, a family moment at the table, a speech at the next microphone. If that is likely, we discuss a second camera or crew, confirmed for your date. Our multi-camera event recording page explains when it helps.

We keep the crew small where we can, move quietly between courses and stay out of the walkways. We record sound as close to the source as the venue allows, because a clear speech matters more than a sharp picture of it.

What moves the quote

For a reception, the biggest factors are the hours from entrance to last item and whether a second camera is needed. A three-hour dinner and an all-evening programme are quoted differently; see how pricing works.

If you are comparing quotes, the videography quote comparison worksheet can help. For the whole wedding, start with our wedding videography page.

Questions people ask

Do you film the whole reception or only part of it?
Either. We can cover the arrival and entrance through to the last speech or performance, or only the parts you choose. We agree the hours from your programme and the venue timings, so you only pay for coverage you need.
Can the speeches be kept complete?
Yes. Ask for full speeches and toasts as a separate recording. A highlight film only carries short excerpts, while a complete recording lets family hear every word again later.
What if the ballroom is dark or the stage lights keep changing?
This is common at banquets. We check the room and the lighting plan with the venue beforehand and ask what changes during the evening. We plan camera positions to suit each part of the room.
Can you film guests at the tables?
Yes, if you want it. Some couples like greetings from each table, others prefer to keep guests out of the film. Tell us your preference and we will follow it, including for guests who do not want to be filmed.
Can you show a short film during the reception?
A same-day edit is available on request. It depends on the programme, the screen and the time between filming and screening, so ask early.
Do you cover receptions in other states?
We film across Malaysia as one team. Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel.
