In short

  • KLCC is an area with several properties, and each venue has its own filming rules.
  • The KL Convention Centre asks organisers for 14 days' notice of commercial filming or streaming.
  • Its loading bays take vehicles under 3.5 metres, with a 30-minute stop for move-in.
  • Camera positions, cable runs and the audio feed are settled with the venue before the day.

KLCC is a business and convention area beside KLCC Park and the Petronas Twin Towers, not a single venue. Before we plan any filming, we need to know which property your event is in, because each one sets its own terms for film crews.

Whose rules apply to your filming?

The venue’s own. The KL Convention Centre publishes organiser guidelines, and this page reads them closely. A hotel, office tower or mall nearby has its own events team, so ask it the same questions. Our venue questions guide lists them.

How does a crew load in at the KL Convention Centre?

The guidelines (version 3.0, 15 May 2024) describe a fixed route. Vehicles enter from Persiaran KLCC at the Centre’s checkpoint beside Traders Hotel and leave towards Jalan Pinang. The loading bays are on the ground floor.

  • Only vehicles below 3.5 metres in height may use the service road.
  • Vehicles may stop for 30 minutes to drop off or collect goods during move-in and move-out.
  • During those periods only workers, exhibitors and contractors are allowed at the bays.
  • Exhibit materials are loaded through the bay area only, so ask the coordinator which entrance a camera crew uses.

For us, that means a short unloading window, a trolley route from the bay and a crew that arrives ready to set up. Ask the Centre’s coordinator for your slot.

What does the Centre ask for filming and streaming?

Organisers give 14 days’ notification of any filming, streaming, video or audio taping of an event for commercial purposes. Outside broadcast vans, cable runs and camera positions are discussed with the Centre’s coordinator, and camera positions may not take up aisle space.

Two more points matter for a video crew:

  • Wireless video. The Centre lists wireless video cameras among sources of Wi-Fi interference. Ask which frequencies are in use before we plan a wireless camera link.
  • Internet. IT services are supplied by the Centre, with extra charges for custom set-ups. If you want a livestream, ask what connection is included.

Drones follow CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia) rules, and the Centre asks for drone requests and a risk assessment 14 days ahead. For a drone request we also plan ground shots.

What else changes for an event around KLCC?

For conferences, launches, dinners and corporate meetings, a few things change.

A planning checklist

  1. Name the exact venue and hall.
  2. Send the filming notice 14 days ahead.
  3. Share the programme or run sheet with us.
  4. Ask for the loading bay slot, power and the audio feed.
  5. Decide the outputs: highlight film, full session recordings, speaker clips.
  6. Tell us if any session is private or off the record.

Our Venue filming questions checklist covers the same ground in a form you can fill in.

How does an enquiry work?

Send us the venue, date, hours and outputs on WhatsApp. An enquiry does not reserve a date. Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel.

The quote moves with the number of rooms, the hours and whether sessions are streamed; see pricing.

If you are still working out the brief, try our brief builder. Next door, Bukit Bintang has a different access problem: public road closures. For the whole city, see event videography in Kuala Lumpur, and for Selangor venues see Selangor.

Tell us the exact venue, the date and what you want filmed. We confirm the crew, the travel and what the venue needs from us.

Questions people ask

Do the KL Convention Centre rules apply to every venue around KLCC?
No. The guidelines we read belong to the KL Convention Centre. A hotel, office tower or mall nearby has its own rules. Tell us the exact venue and we list what to ask its events team.
How early should I tell the KL Convention Centre about filming?
Its guidelines (version 3.0, 15 May 2024) ask for 14 days' notification of filming, streaming, video or audio recording for commercial purposes. Count back from your event date and send the notice to the Centre's coordinator.
Can a camera van or equipment car use the loading bay at KLCC?
The guidelines say vehicles enter from Persiaran KLCC at the checkpoint next to Traders Hotel, exit to Jalan Pinang, and must be under 3.5 metres high. Ask the Centre's coordinator which bay and time slot applies to your crew.
Can I use a wireless video system or drone inside the Centre?
The Centre lists wireless video cameras among sources of Wi-Fi interference, and asks for drone requests with a risk assessment 14 days ahead. Raise both with the coordinator early, and we plan the camera setup around the answer.
