In short
- In KL the venue decides the plan: loading, camera positions and notice for commercial filming.
- Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) manages road closures, which can change access around Bukit Bintang.
- Petaling Jaya, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya are not in Kuala Lumpur, so check the venue's address.
- Evening thunderstorms are common in the October to November transition between monsoons.
In Kuala Lumpur, the venue usually decides the filming plan. Convention centres, hotels, condominiums and office towers each set their own rules for access, loading and camera positions, so the first step is to know which venue and which room.
What settings do KL events use?
| Setting | Typical events | Key question | Place page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Convention centre and towers | Conferences, launches, corporate dinners | When is filming notice due, and where does the crew unload? | KLCC |
| Hotels, malls and public streets | Hotel functions, activations, festivals | Is a road closed on my date, and who approves camera positions? | Bukit Bintang |
| Cafes, restaurants and homes | Private dinners, milestone parties, small launches | Where does the crew park, and will other diners be in shot? | Bangsar |
| Gated condominiums and international schools | Residents’ gatherings, school and community events | What does building management need to register a crew? | Mont Kiara |
Family and community events also take place in homes, halls, mosques, temples and churches across the city.
Is every Klang Valley address in Kuala Lumpur?
No, and it changes venue rules, travel and the quote. Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Subang Jaya are in Selangor, and Cyberjaya falls under Sepang Municipal Council in Selangor. Putrajaya is a separate federal territory. Check the venue’s address on your booking confirmation and send it to us.
How do people and equipment reach the city?
KLIA and KLIA2 are in Sepang, Selangor. A non-stop KLIA Ekspres train links both terminals to KL Sentral, the main rail hub, and KLIA Transit stops at Putrajaya and Cyberjaya on the way. Taxis, e-hailing and airport buses also serve both terminals.
If guests fly in for a conference or a wedding, tell us the arrival days. We plan filming around the schedule and confirm the crew and travel for your date.
What do city rules and weather change?
- Notice for commercial filming. The KL Convention Centre asks for 14 days’ notification in its guidelines (version 3.0, 15 May 2024). Ask any other venue what it requires.
- Road closures. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the police manage closures for public events. For New Year 2026 they closed Jalan Bukit Bintang from 5pm on 31 December, and reported timings differed between the two agencies.
- Weather. MetMalaysia has described October to November as a transition between monsoons (check its current outlook), with thunderstorms in the evening and early night over the west coast and the Peninsula’s interior. For outdoor evening events we plan cover for the kit and a covered fallback with you.
- Drones. Approval comes first, and standard applications go to CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia) at least 14 working days ahead. For a drone request we also plan ground shots.
Languages in KL events
Many KL programmes switch between languages within one speech. Tell us the languages used on stage, so we can plan captions where you need them. The caption and language planner helps you write that down.
What to settle with your venue and with us
Ask your venue:
- Do you need advance notice, and from whom?
- Where can the crew load in and park, and at what times?
- Where can cameras and tripods stand without blocking guests or exits?
- Can we take a sound feed from the venue’s system?
- Are there rules for lighting, cables and drones?
Our guide on questions to ask a venue goes further, and the venue filming checklist helps you collect the answers. For a day with more than one venue, see covering several nearby venues.
Write your needs in the video brief builder before you message us about event videography, or read about local or travelling crew.
Send us the exact venue, the hall or room and the date. We confirm the crew, the travel and what access the venue needs from us.
