Filming fashion launches and trunk shows

You are launching a collection or hosting a trunk show, and need to choose the right video.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • A launch film tells the story of the event. A runway record shows every look, in order, uncut.
  • Decide which one you need, or both, before the quote. They need different cameras and editing.
  • Models, designers and guests should know in advance how they may appear in public videos.
  • A trunk show is smaller and more personal, so it is filmed differently from a runway.

A fashion launch film tells the story of the event, while a runway record shows every look in order without cuts. They are different videos, and you should decide whether you need one or both before asking for a quote.

Our product launch event videography page covers the general launch offer, and fashion runway event videography covers the runway itself. This guide helps you choose between the two and brief them clearly.

Launch film or runway record

Launch film Complete runway record
What it shows The collection, designer, guests, atmosphere and key looks Every look, in order, from start to end
Edited? Yes, cut to music and shaped as a story Little or no editing, apart from cleaning start and end
Cameras Often several angles and detail shots Usually at least two, one wide and one closer
Best for Social media, press and the brand website Reviewing the collection, buyers, stylists, the design team
Common mistake Expecting every look to appear Expecting a short, shareable film from the same footage

A launch film shows the key looks. If every look must be seen, ask for the runway record as well. Covering the walk from more than one angle is described under multi-camera event recording.

What to decide before the quote

  1. Which outputs. Launch film, runway record, short social clips, or a mix. Our video chooser helps you shortlist.
  2. How many looks and how long the show runs. Give a rough run sheet and the number of looks, if you know them.
  3. Layout. Runway length, seating, lighting and where the cameras may stand.
  4. Backstage and detail. Do you want fittings, hair and make-up, garment close-ups?
  5. Audio. The show’s music, the host’s voice and any speeches.

Models, designers and guests

People in the video have a say in how it is used.

  • Models: they, or their agency, should know where the video will be published. Agree this in writing before it is published, especially if it appears in paid advertising.
  • Designers and brand staff: confirm who may be interviewed and who prefers not to be filmed.
  • Guests and clients: at a trunk show especially, clients may not want to appear. Agree which guests can be filmed and which areas stay clear.
  • Backstage: models change here, so access must be controlled. Name who manages this and what may not be filmed.

Permission from the people involved is for the organiser and brand to arrange, and we help you list what to ask.

Music and what appears in public

Runway shows run on music, and the music rights are separate from filming. A music licence for the show does not automatically cover every online use of the video, and platforms can still remove videos if other rights or platform rules are unresolved, according to the music licensing body’s FAQ. Ask who clears the music for the published video, and whether replacement music is needed for the online edit.

Trunk shows

A trunk show is closer to an appointment event: a designer or brand presents pieces to invited clients, often in a small space, over a few hours.

  • Film quietly, with small equipment and discreet positions.
  • Focus on the pieces, the conversations and the setting, not on clients’ faces, unless they agree.
  • Plan for a shorter, softer film instead of a full record.
  • Agree if a short clip for the brand’s social media is needed on the day or afterwards.

A short worked example

This is an illustration only. A label plans a collection show with 20 looks and a trunk show the next day.

  • The show gets two outputs: a launch film for social media and a runway record for the design team. Two cameras are planned for the show, one wide and one closer.
  • Backstage coverage is limited to hair and make-up, with models’ agreement.
  • The trunk show is filmed with one operator, and only clients who agree appear.
  • The label confirms the music for the online edit before publication.

What we confirm for your event

Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel. We also settle these points with you:

  • Which outputs one crew can deliver on the same day, and which need extra cameras.
  • How the runway is filmed without blocking guests’ view.
  • What we need from you about models, backstage and music.
  • How many review rounds the quote covers, and who reviews.

If you are comparing suppliers, ask to see an uncut show recording as well as an edited film: sound, steadiness and whole-show coverage show more than a trailer. The event video brief builder helps you write the brief.

If you know the date, the venue and whether you need the launch story, a full runway record or both, send us the details. We will suggest the coverage that fits and tell you what needs extra crew.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between a launch film and a runway record?
A launch film is an edited story of the event: the collection, the designer, the guests and the atmosphere. A runway record shows every look in sequence without cuts, so each outfit can be reviewed. They can come from the same day, but they are planned and edited differently.
Do we need more than one camera for a runway show?
For a complete record, usually yes, because one camera cannot show both the full walk and close detail at once. Multi-camera crews are available on request and confirmed for each event. Tell us the runway length and seating layout.
Can you film backstage?
Often, if the organiser and designer agree. Backstage is busy, and models are changing, so access, rules and who may be filmed must be settled first. Tell us in the brief whether backstage is wanted and who manages it.
Who needs to agree for models to appear in the video?
Models, and the agency or organiser who engaged them, should know how the video will be used. Their agreement is separate from our filming. Ask for it in writing before you publish, especially for paid advertising.
How is a trunk show filmed?
A trunk show is usually smaller: clients browsing, trying on, talking with the designer. We film it quietly, with attention to client privacy. Agree in advance which guests may appear and which areas stay unfilmed.
