In short
- Johor Bahru is the state capital, next to Singapore, so many events include guests who cross the border.
- Keep the main moment away from the first minutes, because border queues are hard to predict.
- The RTS Link passenger service is now expected from February 2027, so do not plan guest travel around it yet.
- A client in Singapore can approve the film remotely if the process is agreed before the day.
Johor Bahru is the capital of Johor and sits across the water from Singapore. The planning question here is less about the venue and more about when people arrive.
Which Johor Bahru venues do events use?
Business events in the city often use the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, a major venue for the south of the Peninsula. Hotels and halls across the city host weddings, family gatherings and company dinners. See our guides on filming in a hotel ballroom and a convention centre with several halls.
How does the Singapore crossing change the plan?
The Causeway between Johor Bahru and Woodlands is a six-lane road with a rail line beside it, and the Shuttle Tebrau train also runs to Woodlands. The Second Link is the other road crossing, to the west. Arrival time on a busy day is hard to predict.
- Keep the couple’s entrance or the opening speech away from the first minutes.
- Tell us when the key guests expect to arrive, so we film their greetings in order.
- Ask guests from Singapore to leave earlier than they think they need to.
What is the RTS Link date?
The RTS Link runs between Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North in Singapore. On 2 October 2026, Bernama reported that the passenger service is expected from February 2027, after trials finish by the end of 2026 and subject to independent safety certification and approvals in both countries. Earlier targets have moved, so check the latest announcement before you tell guests how to travel.
What if your client or family is in Singapore?
Sometimes the person who approves the video is not at the event. Decide who approves, how the draft is shared and how comments return. The guide on coordinating a Singapore-based client with a Malaysia event covers this.
Guests also speak several languages. Malay, Mandarin, Hokkien, Teochew and Tamil are all common in the city, and about 60% of residents are fluent in English. If speeches mix languages, the caption and language specification planner helps you specify subtitles.
Checklist for an event in Johor Bahru
- The exact venue and hall, not only the area.
- Loading access and the time the crew may enter.
- Arrival times of key guests, and where they come from.
- Who approves the finished video.
- Which speeches must be recorded in full.
- The rain plan, and where the ceremony moves indoors if the late-year rains arrive.
The venue filming questions checklist turns this into questions for your venue. Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel.
