In short
- Desaru is a beach resort area in Kota Tinggi District, on the South China Sea.
- The resort's events team is your first call, before the weather.
- Wind and waves can drown out speech, so plan how voices are recorded.
- The northeast monsoon brings rough seas and heavy rain, so ask each resort about its wet-weather space.
Desaru is a beach resort area on the South China Sea, in Kota Tinggi District in the southeast of Johor. Most events here happen inside a resort, so the first questions go to the resort and the second to the weather.
Which resorts hold events at Desaru?
Desaru Coast has several resort hotels, among them Hard Rock Hotel, The Westin, Anantara and Mandarin Oriental, and some run ballrooms and meeting rooms beside the beach. Many guests stay overnight, so a programme can run over two or three days, from a welcome dinner to a farewell breakfast. Our multi-day event video service explains how several days are scoped.
What do you ask the resort’s events team?
- Do outside videographers need to register or send documents before the day?
- What time may the crew enter, and where is the loading point?
- Which areas used by other guests should stay out of the camera?
- Is there a house sound system we can take a feed from?
- What are the drone rules, and who gives permission?
The guide on filming a resort or destination event goes through these in more detail.
How do the sea and the monsoon affect the day?
Wind and waves can drown speech on a beach or terrace. A lapel microphone on each speaker, or recording the vows indoors, usually matters more than camera choice. See planning intelligible event audio.
The northeast monsoon brings heavier rain and wind from about mid-October to January, so ask the resort which covered space is the backup and who decides to move. Our weather and venue-change filming plan helps you write that down, and filming a beach or island event covers beach setups.
How do guests from Singapore arrive?
A ferry terminal at Desaru has linked the resort area with Tanah Merah in Singapore since July 2022, and bad weather can divert sailings to Tanjung Pengelih. Ask the ferry operator for current days and times, because they change. By road, the Senai-Desaru Expressway joins the coast to Senai, and Johor Bahru is roughly 60 km away by car. Tell us if key guests arrive on a fixed schedule.
Drone shots on the coast
Drone coverage needs approval first, and a beachfront resort may restrict flights over its guests. See the drone coverage planning checklist and the guide to planning lead time for a drone application.
What changes the quote at Desaru?
A resort stay can add overnight costs, and ferry or road travel adds travel costs. The pricing page explains how a quote is built from scope.
For the wider picture, read event videography in Johor. A venue in the city fits the Johor Bahru page, and the offer is on event videography.
Send us the resort, the date and which parts are outdoors, and we will plan sound, backup and travel for the coast.
