In short
- Kota Tinggi is the largest district in Johor, so the venue matters more than the district name.
- Two councils cover the district: Kota Tinggi in the north and Pengerang in the south.
- Johor River floods have closed roads and filled relief centres in past monsoon seasons.
- Pengerang has ferry links to Singapore, which suits guests who cross by sea.
Kota Tinggi is the largest district in Johor. A town hall, a kampung ground and a Pengerang coastal venue are far apart, so the first question is which part of the district your event is in.
Which council covers your venue?
Kota Tinggi District Council covers the northern part of the district, and Pengerang Municipal Council covers the southern part. Filming at a public ground or a heritage site may need approval, so ask your venue which council applies. Send us their answer.
For the beach resorts, see Desaru.
Why does the Johor River matter for your date?
The Johor River runs through the district, and its floods are part of planning here. On 12 January 2025, Free Malaysia Today reported 1,174 people in relief centres in Kota Tinggi, the most of any Johor district, with Jalan Mawai Lama closed and one lane of Jalan Tanjung Sedili open.
For a monsoon-season date, choose a venue with a dry road and a roof, and agree a fallback date. Use the weather and venue-change plan and read changing the venue after booking.
What does Pengerang add?
Pengerang is a municipality in the south of the district. Ferries run from Tanjung Belungkor to Changi Point in Singapore and to Sekupang on Batam, and from Tanjung Pengelih to Changi Point and Tanah Merah. Sebana Cove Resort has its own port for guests from Singapore.
If family or colleagues arrive by ferry, a welcome at the jetty can be a good opening scene. Ask the operator for the current schedule and whether filming on the jetty needs approval. The district’s large RAPID petrochemical complex is a working industrial site, so ask the company about any filming near it.
Does the community behind the event change the plan?
A kampung programme and a Chinese dinner call for very different plans, so tell us which community the event serves and which languages are spoken. Heritage sites such as the mausoleum at Johor Lama and the museums are public places, so ask who approves filming before you choose one. For wedding settings, see Malay wedding videography.
What should you confirm before choosing a venue?
- The council that covers the venue, and who approves filming.
- Whether the road floods in the monsoon, and the indoor backup.
- Power, sound system and shade or roof for open grounds.
- The route for guests, and for ferry arrivals if any.
- Who speaks, and the languages used.
The venue filming questions checklist and outstation filming budget worksheet help you compare venues.
How does an enquiry for Kota Tinggi work?
Message us the venue, the date and your rain plan, and we confirm the crew and travel for Kota Tinggi. An enquiry does not reserve your date; a booking is confirmed after scope and terms are agreed.
Other Johor places: Johor Bahru and Kluang. See the Johor page and our event videography service.
Send us the venue, the date and your indoor backup if floods or rain arrive, and we plan the route and access with you.
