In short
- Putrajaya is a federal territory run by Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj), not by a Selangor council.
- PPj has an online filming application system with location categories and fees.
- Formal events often come with protocol and fixed camera positions.
- Cyberjaya is next door but belongs to Selangor.
Putrajaya is a planned administrative city, and much of its open space is managed by one body, Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj). For outdoor spots that means one office to ask. For halls, ask the venue’s own team.
Who manages what in Putrajaya?
Putrajaya is a federal territory and PPj handles local administration. Its website lists separate online systems for filming applications, event applications, hall booking and lake activities. Cyberjaya, next door, is in Sepang District in Selangor, so ask the Selangor authority there, not PPj. See Cyberjaya and the Selangor hub.
PPj’s filming system sorts locations into a top category (called Platinum) and an “other” category. The top category includes Dataran Putrajaya, Persiaran Perdana, Dataran Wawasan, several bridges and lakeside paths. The filming types it lists are adverts, drama, documentaries and music videos. Ask PPj whether an event video is covered, which category your spot falls in and what lead time applies.
Which settings are common, and what do they change?
| Setting | Typical events | Key question | Linked page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Convention centre (PICC, Precinct 5) | Conferences, forums, official dinners | Who sets camera positions, and can we take a sound feed? | Convention centre guide |
| Open landmarks and lakeside | Ceremonies, public programmes, family gatherings | Which PPj category applies, and what is the wet-weather plan? | Outdoor event guide |
| Government agency halls | Launches, signings, ministry programmes | Who approves the final video? | Government events guide |
| Mosques and prayer halls | Akad nikah, majlis doa, community events | Which areas and moments may be recorded? | Place of worship guide |
The Putrajaya International Convention Centre sits at Precinct 5. For a large forum, ask its team about hall layout, loading access and whether a PA (sound system) feed can be recorded. For a formal event, filming formal openings and officiating ceremonies covers protocol and positions.
How do crew and equipment reach Putrajaya?
Putrajaya Sentral is the transport hub. It has the MRT Putrajaya Line station and the KLIA Transit station named Putrajaya & Cyberjaya, so guests flying into KLIA can reach the city by rail. A crew with lights, stands and cases usually travels by road.
Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya are the nearest event districts. If your programme moves between them, see KLCC and the Kuala Lumpur hub. Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel.
What about drones and public areas?
CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia) asks for standard drone applications at least 14 working days before the activity. A formal or public area may add approvals, so read planning lead time for a drone application. Write your needs in the video brief builder before you message us about event videography.
What we confirm for your event
- Who manages the exact space, and whether PPj or the venue is asked first.
- Any area where cameras, tripods or cables cannot go.
- Protocol: who stands where, and who may be filmed.
- Who approves the video before it is shared, and whether it will be published.
Send us the venue, the date and the kind of event. We help you list the approvals to ask for, then confirm the crew and travel.
