In short
- Batu Kawan is on the mainland, where the Second Penang Bridge meets Seberang Perai.
- Three settings, three sets of rules: factory floors, a public outlet mall, and a large stadium.
- Factory sites may need an induction, ID and a release form before anyone films.
- Plan power, sound and a quiet interview space before the day, not on it.
Batu Kawan is a developing township on the Penang mainland, in South Seberang Perai. The Second Penang Bridge brings traffic from the island into it, and three different kinds of site draw events: factories, a public outlet mall and a stadium.
What is Batu Kawan like for events?
The Industrial Park covers the southern part of the township and hosts multinational manufacturers. Events there are factory visits, product demonstrations, staff days and corporate launches.
Design Village is an outlet mall described as the largest in Malaysia. Its 2021 anniversary event, for example, put 30 food trucks at the mall’s four entrances from 5pm to 10pm. So public, evening and crowd-heavy events happen here.
The Penang State Stadium is a large sports venue, listed with a capacity of 40,000. Ask its operator about load-in, crowd areas and sound before you plan video for a concert or sports day.
What is different about filming here?
Three sets of rules. A factory controls who enters and what is filmed. A mall controls where crew may stand among shoppers. A stadium controls loading and sight lines. Ask each host, not a general contact.
Our guide on filming at an industrial or controlled-access site lists what to check, and filming activations in shopping malls covers the mall side.
Release forms and approvals. Staff, visitors and shoppers may appear on camera. Agree who signs release forms, who approves the film and which products or processes stay out of shot. The filming and publication responsibilities checklist helps.
Power, sound and space. Interviews need a quiet room, and demonstrations need power and clear sightlines. Public areas are noisy. See filming technical presentations and live demonstrations.
Planning checklist for Batu Kawan
- Write the exact premises and the contact person who arranges access.
- Ask whether an induction, ID or escort is needed, and the arrival time for it.
- List the interviews and demonstrations, with who speaks and when.
- Book a quiet space for interviews, and ask about power and cable runs.
- Agree who collects release forms and who approves the film.
- For a mall or stadium, ask the management about filming rules and crowd areas.
How an enquiry for Batu Kawan works
Send the premises, date, hours and outputs you need. We confirm the crew and travel for your venue and date, including the route from the island by bridge. An enquiry does not reserve your date; a booking is confirmed after scope and terms are agreed.
For the whole state, see event videography in Penang. For another mainland town with its own festival crowds, see Bukit Mertajam, and for airport-side conferences, see Bayan Lepas. Read about corporate event videography, and use the event video brief builder to write your request.
Tell us the premises, the date and whether you need interviews, demonstrations or several sessions recorded. We confirm the crew and travel.
