In short
- Balai Besar and Zahir Mosque are in the same heritage area. Ask each one about cameras before the day.
- Menara Alor Setar has a banquet deck, so ask how kit reaches it.
- Ceremony and reception in different places means travel time comes out of coverage hours.
- Name who on your side can answer the venue on the day.
Alor Setar is the capital of Kedah. Its best-known venues are old and protected, so the plan often starts with a permission rather than a camera.
What is special about the heritage core?
A heritage walking trail in the city takes in the Balai Besar, built in 1898 as part of the Istana Kota Star palace complex, and the Zahir Mosque, opened in 1912 with five black domes. The Balai Seni Negeri, a former courthouse from 1893, and the Kedah State Museum are on the same trail. These are public landmarks, but the palace and the mosque are active places with their own officials.
Before you plan a shoot there, ask the managing office about camera positions, dress, quiet times and whether a tripod is allowed. For a nikah in a mosque, camera positions are agreed with the mosque officials first. Our guide to filming in a heritage building lists more questions.
What about a banquet on a tower?
Menara Alor Setar is a 165.5-metre telecommunications tower with a banquet deck, a revolving restaurant and an observation deck. A dinner on a deck means a lift, a narrow load-in and limited floor space. Ask about the lift size, power points, house sound and whether guests can stand near windows without glare. We then plan fewer, lighter camera positions.
Where does the day move between places?
A common Kedah day starts at a home or mosque and ends at a hall or hotel. Travel between them comes out of your coverage hours. The guides on covering several nearby venues and wedding preparation and reception coverage across venues show how to count that time. For clear vows and speeches, read about a venue sound feed with a recording back-up.
What do we confirm for your event?
- Every venue, in order, with the start time at each.
- Who approves cameras at each venue and who answers on the day.
- Power, sound feed and camera positions at the hall or hotel. The hotel ballroom guide lists them.
- Whether you want a highlight film, full recordings, or both.
- What happens if the programme runs late or rain arrives, and who decides.
For a wedding, see Malay wedding videography. For a company function, see corporate event videography. If the venues are outside the city, see Sungai Petani to the south and Jitra to the north. Use the event video brief builder to send the details.
Send us the venues, the date and the order of the day. We confirm the crew and how the travel between venues fits your hours.
