In short
- Ferries reach Kuah Jetty from Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah. Flights land at Langkawi International Airport in Padang Matsirat.
- One travel guide lists a car ferry from Kuala Perlis for bringing a vehicle across.
- The convention centre sits next to a resort, which suits a conference with a wedding gala.
- Rough seas can change the plan for boat moments and kit transfers.
Langkawi events are planned around the crossing. People, cameras and sound gear arrive by ferry or flight before anything is filmed.
How do people and kit reach Langkawi?
Ferries land at Kuah Jetty, in Kuah, the island’s main town. They sail from Kuala Perlis, in Perlis, and from Kuala Kedah. One travel guide gives roughly 1 hour 15 minutes on the Kuala Perlis crossing and 1 hour 45 minutes on the Kuala Kedah one, so check the operator’s timetable. The same guide lists a car ferry from Kuala Perlis, which matters if cases and stands travel by vehicle.
Langkawi International Airport is at Padang Matsirat. The same guide lists direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Subang, Penang and Singapore. If your guests fly in from Singapore, tell us, because their arrival decides when the first filmable moment happens. The guide on booking video for an island event shows how to build the timeline.
Why does the convention centre change the plan?
Langkawi International Convention Centre stands beside The Westin Langkawi, and the hotel manages it, according to a 2015 trade article. That article describes a ballroom for 1,000 guests in banquet style that divides into three spaces, plus seven meeting rooms.
A conference with a gala dinner can then sit on one site, which is a different job from a beach wedding. Ask about the current layout, the house sound feed and whether camera positions need approval. Our guide to convention centres with multiple halls lists the questions.
What about resorts, beaches and the sea?
Holiday weddings and retreats often centre on resort stretches such as Pantai Cenang, the island’s most popular beach, while conferences and civic events lean towards Kuah. A beach ceremony and a ballroom dinner need different kit, so say which one you mean.
Resorts set their own rules for outside crews, power and camera positions. Ask early, using our resort and destination event guide. Travel sources disagree on which months are wet, and one notes rougher seas in the rainy season, so ask the resort when boat transfers get cancelled. The beach and island filming guide and the weather contingency planner help you plan an indoor option.
Guests from Singapore, mainland Malaysia and abroad can mean speeches in Malay, English and Mandarin, while many islanders speak a Langkawi variety of Kedah Malay. See multilingual speech.
What do we confirm for your event?
- The venue, the date, and any travel days either side.
- Who gives resort permission for an outside crew.
- How crew and kit cross, and how your guests travel.
- Whether you want a drone. See the drone planning checklist.
- The films you want: a highlight film, full ceremony recordings, or both.
Send these through the event video brief builder, or read about event videography first. Travel and accommodation shape the quote, as the outstation travel cost guide explains. For the rest of the state, see Kedah.
Tell us the resort or venue, the date and what you want filmed. We confirm the crew and the route across.
