In short
- Kuala Kedah is the Langkawi ferry jetty town, more than 10 km from Alor Setar.
- Ferry crowds, boat engines and wind decide where speeches can be recorded.
- The fort museum and the jetty each have their own managers: ask them about filming.
- Ask the ferry operator whether tide or dredging affects your sailing.
Kuala Kedah is where the Langkawi ferries leave from. An event here is shaped by the jetty, the boat noise and the people crossing to the island. Tell us the exact spot and how guests arrive, and we plan the sound and the schedule around that.
What is different about Kuala Kedah?
Kuala Kedah sits on the Kedah River more than 10 km from Alor Setar city centre, and it is the mainland gateway to Langkawi. Utusan Malaysia reported that the area is busy with ferry passengers on holidays and quiet outside them. For a gathering here, that means crowds and full car parks on school and public holidays. Pick your date with that in mind, and ask the venue about parking for your guests and for our vehicle.
The jetty and the ferry
The jetty is a working transport point. Ferries to Langkawi take roughly an hour and a half to two hours, according to the Utusan report, and the operator’s timetable changes, so check it close to your date.
Ask the operator one more thing. The Transport Ministry said in 2022 that silt often builds up at the jetty and needs dredging. Ask whether tide or dredging has changed sailing times, because a late boat moves your whole day.
If your guests cross to the island, the Langkawi leg is a second shoot. See Langkawi for that side.
The fort museum
Muzium Kota Kuala Kedah is one of the museums run by the Malaysian Museums Department (Jabatan Muzium Malaysia). A museum ground is a good backdrop for a heritage or community event. It also has a manager, so ask the museum office about filming, tripods and extra equipment before you plan any shot there.
Sound at the waterfront
Wind, boat engines, announcements and crowds compete with a speech. Ask where the quietest corner is and whether there is a PA (sound system) we can record from. Our sound planning guide explains how we plan microphones.
For drone shots, approval comes first and ground shots are planned too. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia says standard drone applications are made at least 14 working days before the activity.
