In short
- Kelantan has six different settings, from city and coast to border towns and highland. Each changes the plan.
- The northeast monsoon is expected from November to March, so ask the venue for an indoor option.
- Tell us which languages and dialects will be spoken, so sound and subtitles are planned early.
- Ask family and organisers how the day should be filmed. Customs differ from home to home.
Kelantan events range from a wedding in a Kota Bharu hall to a village kenduri by the Kelantan River or a ceremony at a Thai temple near the border. Start by naming which of these your day is, because it decides the route, the sound and the weather plan.
Which setting is your event in?
| Setting | Typical events | Key question | Place page |
|---|---|---|---|
| City | Weddings, company dinners, school and university events, mosque and community gatherings | Where may cameras stand near mosques and heritage buildings? | Kota Bharu |
| Coast | Beach concerts, family days, Buddhist temple events | Who runs the PA, and what is the rain plan on open sand? | Bachok |
| Border and temples | Thai Buddhist ceremonies, Indian festivals, kenduri | Who on site can tell us where the camera may stand? | Tumpat |
| Border town | Family events with guests from Thailand | Which venues are on your route, and who guides the crew between them? | Pasir Mas |
| River villages | Village weddings, school and college events | How long is the whole day, from setup to the last speech? | Tanah Merah |
| Highland and forest | Community events, Orang Asli gatherings, camps | Do we need to stay overnight, and what is the road like? | Gua Musang |
How do we plan around customs that differ?
Families in Kelantan do things their own way, as in every state. So we ask four questions before the day.
- Which ceremonies happen, and in what order?
- Who must be filmed, and who would rather not appear?
- Which moments are kept private or filmed from a distance?
- Who can guide the crew if the order changes?
Our must-capture moments checklist turns the answers into a list the crew follows on the day.
What language and sound questions come up?
Speeches may mix Kelantanese Malay, standard Malay, English, Thai and Chinese. Tell us who speaks which language so we place microphones for the speeches and plan subtitles. W3C advises checking automatic captions for accuracy, so allow time to correct them. The caption and language planner helps you write the specification.
How does the monsoon change the plan?
The state government has said the northeast monsoon runs from November to March, as Bernama reported for the 2024 season. Heavy rain in that period can move a date, a venue or an outdoor programme.
- Ask the venue for an indoor or covered area.
- Decide what is filmed first if rain shortens the programme.
- Ask us how a drone shot would be replaced by ground shots.
- Check weather and flood information for your date before you confirm an outdoor plan.
The weather and venue-change plan gives you a starting layout.
How do crew and travel work in Kelantan?
Kelantan’s weekend is Friday and Saturday, so weddings and gatherings cluster on those days. Enquire as soon as you have a date and venue in mind, so we can check availability and plan travel.
Tell us the venue and date, and we confirm the crew and travel. Kota Bharu has Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, while Gua Musang is a long journey inland, so the route depends on where you are.
If your event also involves Terengganu, Pahang or Perak, see Terengganu, Pahang and Perak. The guide on local or travelling crew explains the difference, and the outstation filming budget worksheet lists the cost items. Write your needs in the video brief builder before you message us about event videography.
Tell us the town, the venue, the date and the customs your family wants to follow, and we will plan the filming around them.
