In short
- Mainland and island events need two different plans.
- The northeast monsoon closes most island resorts from November to February.
- The weekend here is Friday and Saturday, so ask venues about Sunday and Friday prayer times.
- Ask the family or committee what may be filmed before the day.
Terengganu events fall into two plans: the mainland coast and the islands. A hall in Kuala Terengganu and a resort on Redang differ in travel, weather and approvals.
Which setting is yours?
| Setting | Typical events | Key question | Place page |
|---|---|---|---|
| State capital | Company dinners, weddings, seminars | Can we record from the venue’s sound system? | Kuala Terengganu |
| University and airport district | Campus events, hotel receptions | How many places and sessions does the day cover? | Kuala Nerus |
| Industrial south | Company events, safety days, community programmes | Is a site induction needed for the crew? | Kemaman |
| Northern border district | Family events, village celebrations | Is any part of the day on an island? | Besut |
| Resort island | Resort weddings, company trips | Which resort, and which crossing? | Redang |
| Resort island | Destination weddings, retreats | Besar or Kecil, and what is the last boat? | Perhentian Islands |
What changes about filming in Terengganu?
The weekend is Friday and Saturday. State offices close on those days and Sunday is a working day. For a wedding or kenduri on either day, ask the hall, caterer and officiant about their hours. If your programme runs on a Friday, leave a gap for Friday prayers.
Monsoon. The northeast monsoon, roughly November to February, affects the whole east coast. Travel guides report that on Redang most resorts close and ferries cut back in those months. Our weather planning guide and weather contingency planner help you set a backup.
Getting here. Sultan Mahmud Airport at Kuala Terengganu has daily flights to Kuala Lumpur, and the East Coast Expressway links the state to Kuantan and the capital. Neighbours are Kelantan to the north and Pahang to the south, and the Kuantan page covers the nearest large Pahang city.
Islands. Boats to Redang leave from Merang or, from March to October, from Shahbandar Jetty in Kuala Terengganu. For the Perhentian Islands, boats leave from Kuala Besut. Our guide to booking video for an island event explains how limited boat windows shape crew and equipment.
Local preferences. Ask the host or committee what may be filmed, who may appear and where footage can be shared. If the event includes a ceremony, tell us where the camera may stand.
What should you settle before booking?
- The exact venue, and whether it is on the mainland or an island.
- Road or boat timing, and the backup if the sea or weather changes.
- Whether the resort or hall allows filming in the main room or on the beach.
- Whether we can take sound from the venue’s sound system (PA).
- Whether you want a drone shot, which needs approval first.
For beach and island settings, see our guide on filming a beach or island event.
How does an enquiry work?
Send the place, date, event type and the films you want. A date is held only after scope and terms are agreed. The coverage brief builder turns your plans into a message, and the outstation filming budget worksheet shows which travel items to expect. Our core service is event videography across Malaysia.
Tell us the place, the date and what you want filmed. We confirm the crew, and the road or boat travel involved.
