In short
- Kuala Kangsar is where the Sultan of Perak resides, so royal and heritage premises carry their own protocol.
- The Bukit Chandan sites, such as the royal museum and Ubudiah Mosque, are places to ask, not assume.
- Schools and a university make graduation and alumni days a regular event type.
- The North-South Expressway and the ETS train both serve the town.
Kuala Kangsar is the royal town of Perak, where the Sultan of Perak resides. For filming, the question is whether your event touches a royal or heritage place, and who approves a camera there.
What are the settings in Kuala Kangsar?
The royal and heritage sites sit on Bukit Chandan, on one side of town. They include Istana Iskandariah, the current palace; Istana Kenangan, the old palace that is now the Perak Royal Museum; and Ubudiah Mosque beside the Royal Mausoleum. Ihsaniah Iskandariah Mosque is in Kampung Kuala Dal.
The town also has several schools and a university. Malay College Kuala Kangsar, SMJK Tsung Wah, Clifford Secondary School, MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah, Kolej Vokasional Kuala Kangsar and Sultan Azlan Shah University all hold graduations, prize-givings and alumni days.
What do you ask about royal and heritage premises?
One yes does not cover every place, so ask these early:
- Who approves filming at the museum, the mosque or the palace grounds, and in what form?
- What dress and conduct are expected, and are there areas that must not be filmed?
- Do prayer times, public opening hours or visits by royal guests set a window for the crew?
- Does a crew pass or a briefing apply, and when must names be submitted?
If royal guests attend your event, the organiser or the palace’s protocol contact sets the rules, and we follow them.
How does a school or university event differ?
Graduations and alumni days run to a fixed programme, and the school or university decides where cameras may stand and which parents or students may appear on film. Ask whether a staff member will guide the crew on the day. Use the run-sheet filming planner to mark the moments in order.
How do guests and crew arrive?
The North-South Expressway serves the town, and Kuala Kangsar railway station is served by KTM intercity and ETS trains. Guests from Taiping or Ipoh can plan their own travel time, and we plan the crew’s arrival around the first ceremony.
