- Arau's ETS station makes train travel for guests and equipment worth planning.
Arau is the royal town of Perlis. For many events here, the first question is who gives permission to record, long before the camera plan.
What is special about Arau?
Istana Arau was built in 1905 and was the ruler’s official residence until the move to Kangar in 1945. Today it hosts investitures and formal state banquets. Next to it, Galeri Diraja Arau holds royal seals, agreements and silverware, and public visits need prior approval from the Raja of Perlis’ Office.
Once a year the palace opens its grounds to the public. The Malam Kilauan Cahaya has run since 2012, and the 2026 edition marked the Raja’s 83rd birthday, with gates opening at 9.30 pm. Organisers reported more than 33,000 visitors over two days. If your event is near the palace in that period, expect crowds and a night-time programme.
What kinds of events happen in Arau?
Palace-linked and formal occasions, weddings and kenduri, and campus events. UniMAP lists its Kampus Alam (Pauh) address in Pauh Putra, Arau. The town also has a heritage homestay on Jalan Stesen and a Siamese temple, Wat Machimaprasit, so ceremonies of more than one community are held here. Ask each family about the customs they want shown or kept private.
What changes for filming in Arau?
- Protocol and permission. For a palace-linked occasion, ask the organiser or the office in charge where people stand, who may be filmed and whether recording is allowed. We plan around the answer and list open points in the quote.
- Campus events. A university event involves many people. Ask who approves filming, whether students and guests are told, and which rooms are used. Read the universities and higher education guide and the permissions guide.
- Night events. Evening programmes with lights and fireworks need low-light cameras and a plan for sound, so tell us the programme early.
- Drones. Approval comes first: CAAM asks for standard applications at least 14 working days ahead. For a drone request we also plan ground shots. See the drone guide.
What do we confirm for your Arau event?
- Who approves filming, and in what form.
- Where the crew may stand, and whether a fixed spot is required.
- Whether speeches have a clean audio feed. See the event audio guide.
- The run sheet, so we know when the main moments happen.
- How guests arrive. ETS trains stop at Arau station, so tell us if people arrive by train.
How does an enquiry for Arau work?
Send us the venue, date and the films you want. We check availability, then confirm the crew and explain any travel in the quote. An enquiry does not reserve the date.
For a family event, the family and personal milestones guide may help. See the Perlis overview or Kangar for the state capital, or start with the event videography service.
Tell us the venue in Arau, the date and who approves filming, and we confirm the crew and travel.
