In short
- Kangar hosts state-run events, which come with an organiser, a protocol and a programme.
- Public festivals here, such as Perlis Agrofest 2026, expected more than 100,000 visitors.
- Mosque and heritage sites have their own filming rules, set by the people in charge.
- Quotes come from your scope, not a fixed Kangar package.
Kangar is the Perlis state capital, so many events here are run by an office, an agency or a committee. The first question is who the organiser is and who approves filming.
What kinds of events happen in Kangar?
State and government occasions are held here, alongside weddings, kenduri, school events and company dinners. Travel guides list the Perlis State Assembly complex and the Bangunan Dato’ Wan Ahmad among the government buildings, and Dewan 2020 as a multipurpose hall. Ask any hall which rooms and sound systems your event uses.
Public festivals also happen. In April 2026 the state government held Perlis Agrofest at Sungai Batu Pahat, Kangar. It lasted three days, combined the Harumanis mango festival with a farmers’ and fishermen’s day, and the opening was officiated by the Raja of Perlis. Organisers expected more than 100,000 visitors.
What is different about filming in Kangar?
- State-run events. There is an official programme, a protocol and often a media arrangement. Ask the organiser early for the programme and where cameras may stand.
- Crowded outdoor festivals. With visitors in the tens of thousands, we plan camera positions and sound with the organiser before the day, and keep a wet-weather option. See outdoor events with a wet-weather plan.
- Mosque and heritage sites. Masjid Alwi is listed as a National Heritage mosque with a golden dome, according to one travel guide. The people in charge decide whether and where recording is allowed. Read about filming religious or culturally private moments.
Kangar is the state capital and, by one account, the smallest in Malaysia. It sits on the Perlis River, which runs down to Kuala Perlis.
Residents are mostly Malay, with a sizeable Chinese community and a smaller Indian community. Perlis Malay is the everyday language, with Hokkien, Mandarin and English also heard. Tell us which languages the speeches will use and which to record in full.
Heritage and civic buildings add their own questions. Alwi Mosque dates from 1910 and was once the state mosque, and the State Secretariat Building has a 1930s clock tower. Ask the committee or office about filming before you plan shots there.
Many Kangar events have several speakers and a head table. Tell us who sits where, so we can place a camera with a clear view without blocking guests, and ask whether the hall’s sound system has a separate audio feed. See the event audio guide.
What do we confirm for your Kangar event?
- The exact venue, room and date.
- Who organises the event and who approves filming.
- Who speaks, and which moments must be recorded.
- Which films you need. The event videography service page explains the options.
- Whether any guests should stay out of shared films. See the permissions guide.
- Who signs off the final video, if a committee approves it.
Our venue filming questions checklist turns these into questions you can send to the venue.
How does an enquiry for Kangar work?
Send us the venue, date and the films you want. We check availability, confirm the crew and explain any travel in the quote. An enquiry does not reserve the date; a booking is confirmed once scope and terms are agreed.
If your event also involves the royal town, see Arau. The Perlis overview compares all four towns.
Tell us the venue in Kangar, the date and who organises the event, and we confirm the crew and travel.
