In short
- All stays on Redang are resorts, so the resort sets your filming spaces.
- Boats leave from Merang or, from March to October, from Kuala Terengganu.
- Most resorts close and ferries cut back from November to February.
- Beaches are far apart: moving between them takes a chartered boat or a jungle trail.
Redang is an island group off Terengganu, in Kuala Nerus district. For a video crew, the event begins at the jetty, and the resort decides most of what can be filmed.
Resort first, then the crossing
Accommodation on Redang is resort-based, so your resort is also your venue, your power and your sound system. Tell us the resort name, not only “Redang”, and which parts you will use: beach, restaurant, ballroom or garden.
A travel guide names Merang as the main jetty. From March to October, a ferry also runs from Shahbandar Jetty in Kuala Terengganu to the island’s south side, mainly for guests of one resort.
Ask your resort which crossing your guests will use. We plan the crew’s crossing and the gear cases around the same route.
Where on the island is your event?
The resorts sit on different parts of the island, and a travel guide says there is no public transport or water taxi. Reaching other beaches takes a chartered boat or a 30 to 40 minute jungle trail.
Settle three things:
- Is the ceremony on your resort’s beach?
- If you want a second beach for portraits, who provides the boat?
- How long does the trip take, with cases?
We plan around the answers.
Monsoon decides the calendar
The northeast monsoon runs from November to February. Travel guides report that most resorts close and ferry schedules are cut back. If your date is anywhere near that window, ask the resort in writing whether it will operate and agree a backup date before guests commit. Our weather planning guide and weather and venue-change plan help you set the trigger for switching.
What changes for filming here
- Gear moves by boat. We pack to what can be loaded and carried safely, and may suggest arriving a day early.
- Spare equipment is far away. We plan backup audio and power.
- Marine park rules. Ask the park authorities and the resort what applies to commercial filming and to aerial shots.
- Beach events depend on light and wind. See filming a beach or island event.
A drone request needs approval first, and we plan ground shots as well.
Planning checklist
- Resort name and the spaces you will use.
- Guest and crew crossing, and the last boat of the day.
- Event timeline with a covered backup for rain.
- Power and PA arrangements at the resort.
- Filming and drone rules from the resort and marine park.
- Backup date or venue if the season closes.
The resort and destination event guide goes deeper on venue questions.
How an enquiry works
Send the resort, date and what you want filmed, or build a brief with the event video brief builder. We confirm the crew and the travel involved, and a booking is confirmed after scope and terms are agreed. For the state, see Terengganu and the starting city, Kuala Terengganu. The Perhentian Islands are the other main island group.
Tell us the resort, the date and how your guests will cross. We confirm the crew, and the travel and boat transfers involved.
