In short
- Besut is Terengganu's northern gateway, next to the Kelantan border.
- Kuala Besut is the mainland port for the Perhentian Islands.
- Decide early whether the island leg is part of the filming brief.
- Many Besut Malays speak Kelantanese Malay, so tell us the languages used.
Besut is the northernmost district of Terengganu, bordering Kelantan. The first question for your video is whether the whole event stays on the mainland.
Mainland or island: decide first
Jerteh is the main town, and Kuala Besut is a fishing port. The Perhentian Islands lie about 20 km offshore, and boats to them leave from Kuala Besut. Many Besut events mix the two: a family gathering in town, then a trip across the water.
Treat them as separate blocks of coverage:
- Mainland block. A venue in Jerteh, Kuala Besut or a village such as Jabi or Pasir Akar. The questions are road access, parking, power and sound at the venue.
- Island block. A boat crossing, limited baggage and weather. That plan sits on our Perhentian Islands page.
If only the mainland event matters to you, say so and we plan without a boat.
Language and community
Malays are the majority here, and many speak Kelantanese Malay rather than the Terengganu Malay heard elsewhere in the state. The district also has Chinese and Siamese communities. Every family is different, so tell us the languages used in speeches, prayers and interviews, and who can name the key guests. If you want captions or translated subtitles, see the caption and language planner.
What changes for filming
- Border position. Besut sits on the Kelantan side of the state. Guests may arrive through Kota Bharu, so check where they travel from. For Kelantan events, see that state page.
- Distance. Crew travel, and sometimes an overnight stay, may be part of the plan. The outstation filming budget worksheet shows the cost lines to ask about.
- Outdoor settings. Fishing-port, riverside and village events often run outdoors. See outdoor event audio and wind and the wet-weather plan guide.
- Community events. Kenduri and celebrations are often held at home or in a hall. Agree which moments are private first.
Questions to settle before you enquire
- The exact venue, town and date.
- Which parts, if any, happen on an island.
- Languages used and who will explain key moments.
- Outdoor areas and a rain plan.
- Whether the crew needs accommodation near the venue.
How an enquiry works
Send the venue, date and what you want filmed, or fill in the event video brief builder. We confirm the crew and the travel involved. Your date is confirmed once scope and terms are agreed. See the Terengganu page for the wider region, or our event videography service for what we film.
Tell us the town, the venue and the date, and say whether any part happens on an island. We confirm the crew and the travel involved.
