In short

  • Main towns are Tanah Rata, Brinchang and Ringlet, and tea estates sit around them.
  • Landslides have closed access roads, so plan a travel buffer and know the second route.
  • Cool, wet weather suits an indoor or covered alternative for every outdoor moment.

Cameron Highlands is a Pahang district, high up and cool, and most events here are destination events: retreats, weddings, family gatherings and company trips. The main towns are Tanah Rata, Brinchang and Ringlet, and the venues are spread between them.

What is different about getting to Cameron Highlands?

Roads decide the day. In January 2025 a landslide near the Blue Valley junction blocked a key access road from Simpang Pulai, and people were told to use Jalan Sungai Koyan from Lipis or Jalan Tapah instead. On 11 September 2026 a section of Jalan Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Tanah Rata closed after a landslide, and flash floods hit homes in Brinchang the same afternoon.

So we plan a travel buffer, and we ask you where guests are staying. For an early start, the crew may arrive the day before. The outstation costs guide explains how this enters a quote.

Where do events happen, and what do they need?

Tea estates and gardens. BOH runs tea gardens at Sungai Palas near Brinchang and at Ringlet. Estates set their own visiting days and hours, so ask the one you plan to use. The owner decides where cameras may stand. See permits and permissions for destination filming.

Hill hotels and farms. Ask about setup time, power near the stage, and a quiet room for interviews. The towns are some distance apart, so confirm the exact address. Our guide to filming a resort or destination event has the full list.

How do you plan for mist and rain?

Rain showers can come in the afternoon, and mist can cover the view you were counting on. We keep equipment dry and plan shots that work in grey light.

  1. Ask the venue for its indoor or covered backup, and how fast it can switch.
  2. Decide which moments must be outdoors, such as a toast or a group photo.
  3. Tell us before the day, so shots and sound are planned for both versions.
  4. Keep spare time in the schedule.

The weather planning guide lists more. For a company trip, see corporate retreat videography.

What languages will be spoken?

Speeches at highland weddings and company trips often mix Malay, English and Chinese dialects. Tell us which languages to expect, and we plan sound and subtitles. See handling multilingual speech in an event film.

Questions people ask

What happens if a road into Cameron Highlands is closed?
It has happened. In January 2025 a landslide blocked a key access road from Simpang Pulai, and road users were advised to use Jalan Sungai Koyan in Lipis or Jalan Tapah. In September 2026 a road in Tanah Rata closed after a landslide. We confirm the route for your date and allow a buffer.
Can you film at a tea estate or farm?
Often, with the owner's permission. Ask the estate or farm whether filming is allowed, where cameras may stand, and what the rain plan is. For a drone request we also plan ground shots, since approval comes first.
Does the cool weather affect the equipment?
Mist and humidity are the main issue, since lenses fog and cables get damp. We keep equipment dry and plan shots that look good in grey light. Ask your venue where the crew can set up under cover.
Will the crew stay overnight?
For an early start, a late finish or a long drive, an overnight stay can be sensible. We agree it with you before booking and include it in the quote scope. Ask your hotel whether crew rooms are available.
