In short
- Penampang is a Kadazan-Dusun heartland next to Kota Kinabalu, with a large Catholic community and the main Kaamatan venue.
- You decide what is filmed, what stays private and what may be shared.
- A family day often moves between a home, a church and a hall.
In Penampang, the organiser’s wishes lead. Tell us which people, customs and moments matter and which stay private, and the filming is planned around them.
What events are held in Penampang?
Penampang is a district next to Kota Kinabalu. Most residents are Kadazan-Dusun or Chinese, and most Kadazan-Dusun are Roman Catholic. Common events are family weddings, church and parish programmes, community gatherings and cultural festivals. Many are held in Donggongon, the district town, or in village halls.
How does Kaamatan change the plan?
Hongkod Koisaan is a cultural village run by the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) and the main venue of the Kaamatan harvest festival. Kaamatan falls on 30 and 31 May, a state holiday in Sabah, so roads and car parks near the venue are busy then.
If your event is part of Kaamatan, or near it, ask the organiser:
- Which parts of the programme are open to filming?
- Who are the key people, and who approves the final video?
- Are there rules on recording the stage, performers or children?
Our guide on filming Kaamatan community celebrations covers the method.
How do you film a church or parish day?
Church events follow a fixed order, with moments that must not be interrupted, so ask the parish for the order of service and note where the crew can move between moments. Agree with the parish:
- where cameras and tripods may stand, and where they may not;
- whether sound can be recorded during Mass, a blessing or a baptism;
- who may see the video afterwards.
See filming Christmas community and parish programmes and filming religious or culturally private moments. Before the day, agree three lists with us: moments we film, moments we film from a distance, and moments we leave out.
What if the day moves between venues?
A family day may start at a home, move to a church and end at a hall. Give us:
- The address and start time of each place
- How long you expect to stay at each one
- The contact at each place
- The languages spoken at each place
See filming across a city and its surrounding districts. Where speakers use several languages, plan captions with the caption and language specification planner.
Where do you start?
Message us the venues, date and programme. A booking is confirmed once scope and terms are agreed. For a city venue next door, see Kota Kinabalu and the Sabah overview. Our event videography service page lists what we film.
Tell us the venues, the programme and the languages used, and we confirm the crew and travel.
