In short
- The road from Sibu replaced most express boats, so confirm which route is open for your date.
- Upriver and longhouse events need a longer lead time, a transport plan and a power and weather backup.
- Agree with the host community what may be filmed and shared before the day.
Kapit is a river town on the Rajang in Sarawak’s interior, and the hardest part of filming here is often getting there. Tell us your exact site and date, and we confirm the crew, the route and the travel.
How do people and equipment reach Kapit?
A road has linked Sibu and Kapit since 2021. A 2024 report called it a single-carriageway road of about 160 km, and said fewer than six express boats were left on the river. A second road on the other riverbank was then under construction, so check what is open for your date.
The practical point is the cut-off. The same report said the last boat back to Sibu left in the afternoon, and that missing it meant an overnight stay or a costlier speedboat. A long programme needs an overnight plan whichever route you use. Decide early whether the crew stays in Kapit, and end filming early enough for the route you choose.
What is different about filming in Kapit?
Getting there decides the plan. A town hall event and a longhouse event upriver are two different jobs. Tell us the exact site, how guests will arrive and whether the last stretch is by road or boat. The guide to how crew travel for a distant event explains the trade-off.
Equipment is carried and powered. Cameras, audio gear and batteries travel with the crew. Ask the host about power, shelter and a quiet place for sound. The venue filming questions checklist is a good start.
Community agreement comes first. Kapit is the town for longhouse communities along the middle Rajang. For a longhouse or village event, ask the headman or organiser what may be filmed and shared, and how visits are normally arranged. The permissions guide shows how to plan this.
Weather affects travel and filming. Rain can change river and road conditions. Read the weather planning guide and agree a backup.
A short planning checklist
- Give the exact place and how guests travel there.
- Ask the host about power, shelter and a quiet spot for speeches.
- Agree with the community what may be filmed and shared.
- Check the route you will use and its last departure, and decide whether to stay overnight.
- Decide the first moments to film if time becomes short.
If part of the trip passes through Sibu, say so. The outstation filming budget worksheet lists travel and accommodation items, and the Sarawak page gives the wider picture.
Send us the exact place, the date and how guests are getting there. We confirm the crew, the route and the travel for Kapit.
