In short
- Company events near the port and plants may need a safety induction and limits on what is filmed.
- Agree early who approves recorded material and where it may be shared.
- Festival weeks, such as the kite festival, can be busy for hotels and travel, so confirm the crew early.
Bintulu is a coastal industrial town, so many events here are company events. Tell us the site and date, and we confirm the crew and the travel.
What is different about filming in Bintulu?
Industrial sites. Bintulu has an industrial estate at Tanjung Kidurong, with the port and oil and gas operators nearby. Events inside or near such sites usually come with rules: a safety briefing, an escort, limits on where cameras go and on what may be shared.
Ask the site contact for these in writing and send them to us. Our venue filming questions checklist helps with the list.
Approval of recorded material. If speakers show plans, figures or plant areas, someone must decide what may be recorded and published. Agree who that person is, and what happens to material they hold back. See our guide to confidential presentations and off-record segments and the decisions and approvals planner.
Hotel rooms. Many company dinners and seminars use hotel event rooms. Fairfield by Marriott Bintulu, for example, lists six event rooms, the largest holding 340 guests in a reception layout, with an audio-visual technician and PA system. Ask your hotel which room has a separate sound feed and where a camera platform can stand.
Are there festivals in Bintulu?
Not every event here is industrial. The Borneo International Kite Festival ran from 22 to 26 July in 2026, sponsored by the Bintulu Port Authority. For an outdoor event by the water, plan for wet weather, and ask the venue whether a boat transfer is part of the day. Read our guide to filming an outdoor event with a wet-weather plan.
Which events are common in Bintulu?
- Company meetings, safety days and annual dinners. See corporate event videography.
- Seminars and training days. See seminar and workshop recording.
- Community and family events in town or the villages nearby, led by the host.
A short planning checklist
- Name the venue or site, and the person who controls access.
- Ask whether visitors need an induction, and how long it takes.
- List what may not be filmed, and who approves the final video.
- Ask whether a clean sound feed can be taken from the venue’s system.
- Decide whether the crew should arrive the day before, and how equipment travels from the airport to the venue.
The outstation filming budget worksheet lists the travel items to expect, and the event video brief builder turns your notes into a message. If your plans also include Miri or Sibu, say so, and see the Sarawak page for the wider picture.
Send us the venue or site, the date and what you want filmed. We confirm the crew and the travel for Bintulu.
