Filming a Petaling Jaya event across sections and venues

Your Petaling Jaya address has a section number, and you want the right crew at the right door.

Share your date and area, and we will suggest coverage and confirm what is possible.

In short

  • Petaling Jaya addresses carry a section number, and the same road name can repeat across sections.
  • Council grounds, a business-park hall and a hotel each set different loading and filming rules.
  • A day with several venues is planned as separate coverage blocks with travel between them.
  • A film shown the same night needs a screening time and a sound feed settled early.

Petaling Jaya began as a planned township, with the first houses built in 1952, and it became a city on 20 June 2006. It is split into numbered sections, and the section tells us where the crew is going far better than the town name does.

How do Petaling Jaya addresses work?

Locals say “Section 19”, “SS2” or “Section 14”. Many “SS” areas, including SS2 and Kelana Jaya’s SS3 to SS7, take the name from Sungai Way-Subang, and the same road number can repeat across sections. Copy the address exactly as printed on your invitation or venue letter, with section and postcode.

Which part of Petaling Jaya is your venue in?

The city has several belts, and each suggests a different kind of day.

Area What you find there What to settle
Old Town (Sections 1 to 4) and nearby older sections The original garden-city layout, family homes, shop-lot restaurants Parking and loading on narrow streets
PJ State, around Menara MBPJ The civic core and business district Council halls and grounds, and who approves public events
Kelana Jaya (SS3 to SS7) Colleges, a large hotel with divisible ballrooms Which room, and whether the sound feed can be recorded
Bandar Utama, Damansara, Kota Damansara and Mutiara Damansara Malls, offices and newer townships in the north Distance to your other venues that day

Petaling Jaya also has more than 25 universities and colleges, including UiTM in Section 1, IIUM’s foundation campus in Section 17 and UNITAR in SS6, so convocations and campus events are common. Ask the campus office who approves filming.

Hotels and halls differ more than the map suggests. The Le Méridien in Kelana Jaya lists a Grand Ballroom and three smaller ballrooms, so ask which one you have booked and how it is divided.

The city council runs Dewan Sivik MBPJ and Laman MBPJ. In June 2026 it held a week-long festival for 20 years of city status, with the main night on its own grounds. A public event like that brings crowds, a stage and fireworks, so lighting and camera areas are settled with the organiser.

A listed business and convention centre on Jalan 19/1 in Section 19 offers rooms from about 300 to 3,600 square feet, for up to 500 people, with audio-visual equipment and broadband.

Is the venue in Petaling Jaya or Kuala Lumpur?

The two share a boundary, and addresses near it can confuse. KL became a Federal Territory in 1974 and Petaling Jaya stayed in Selangor. If your hall is near the Federal Highway, check the postcode and send us the full address. For a day that crosses over, see Kuala Lumpur and the Selangor page.

What changes when the day has several venues?

A morning ceremony at a home in Old Town, lunch in a hall and a dinner in a hotel in Kelana Jaya become three coverage blocks. Give each address, arrival time and loading rule. Overlapping parts may need two crews, which the simultaneous coverage planner helps you see. The venues guide lists what to ask each place.

A short film for the evening depends on when it is shown, how long the programme runs first and where the footage is edited. Work back from the screening time with the same-day edit planner; the same-day edit service page explains the option.

A planning checklist

  1. List every venue with section number, postcode and arrival time.
  2. Ask each venue about loading, power and the sound system.
  3. Mark the moves between venues and who travels with the main guests.
  4. Choose films for each part: highlight, full recording, clips.
  5. Name moments that should stay unfilmed.

Questions people ask

Why do you ask for the section number of a Petaling Jaya venue?
Roads and shop lots in Petaling Jaya are numbered by section, for example Section 19 or SS2, and similar numbers repeat. The section tells the crew exactly where to go and which hall or building manager to ask about loading.
Can the crew film a public event on council grounds, like a city festival?
Ask the organiser. In June 2026 the council ran a city festival with a parade, performances and fireworks on its own grounds, so large public events there have their own stage, crowd and night-lighting plan. Send us the run sheet and the agreed camera areas.
Does a business-park hall in Petaling Jaya suit a seminar recording?
It can. One listed business centre in Section 19 shows rooms from small meeting spaces up to a hall for 500 with audio-visual equipment and broadband. Ask the centre whether its sound feed can be recorded and whether camera positions need approval.
Is my Petaling Jaya venue in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor?
Petaling Jaya is in Selangor and has been separate from Kuala Lumpur since KL became a Federal Territory in 1974. One source says the Kota Darul Ehsan arch over the Federal Highway marks the line. Check the postcode and council on your venue letter, then send us the full address.
